Process:
For this project, the goal was to create a 3D model of an object, but figuring out what to make was a bit of a challenge! After looking around for inspiration, the idea of creating a hairpin based on Dennis, the cat, came to mind. The design needed to be both creative and functional, so some research on different hairstyles and hair accessories was necessary. After exploring a few options, the final design shown to the side was chosen!
The sweet boy to the right is Dennis, the main inspiration behind this project! Isn't he cute? His adorable features helped inspire the hairpin design, adding a personal touch to the project. Who knew a cat could contribute to a design assignment just by being cute?
This is where the hairpin project started: the initial design sketch! Before jumping into 3D modeling, a rough idea needed to be put on paper first. The goal was to create a hairpin inspired by Dennis while making sure the design could actually work as a hair accessory. After doing some research on different hairpins and hairstyles, it was time to figure out how to turn the idea into something that looked cute AND served a purpose.
The sketch helped map out the overall shape, details, and proportions before moving into the digital modeling stage. Of course, drawing something on paper is one thing, but turning it into a 3D object is a whole different beast. Still, having a starting point made the process a lot easier and gave the design a clear direction. Every great hairpin has to start somewhere, and apparently, this one started with a cat and a pencil!
Here’s the hairpin in action! After all the sketching, designing, and 3D modeling, it was finally time to see how it looked when actually worn. Testing it out helped show how the design fits into the hair and whether it works as both a functional accessory and a cute little decoration. Turns out, Dennis makes a pretty good hairpin design after all!
